Department of New Media and Communication
The Department of New Media and Communication offers a comprehensive program structured with a multidisciplinary and critical approach that meets the requirements of the digital age, supporting both applied and theoretical education through university-industry collaboration. The department includes two separate undergraduate programs, one taught in Turkish and the other in English. In line with the paradigms of Industry 4.0, Society 5.0, and Education 5.0, these programs take a holistic approach to rapidly transforming media and communication technologies. Our department offers an internationaly focused learning environment that aims to develop communication skills at a global level. Our English-language program facilitates students' access to global media literature and provides an international perspective through its multicultural classroom structure. Our expert, experienced, and productive academic staff work closely with students on an individual basis, supporting both their theoretical and applied development. Media studies are approached in an interconnected manner with fields such as sociology, psychology, law, cultural studies, politics, art, and technology, and the course content covers the digitalization of media from analog to digital as well as the hybrid media models built upon it. Course content is supported by current topics such as artificial intelligence, big data, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), the Internet of Things, and data visualization. Our students have access to applied training opportunities through classrooms and studios equipped with the latest technological infrastructure, technology laboratories, digital content production spaces, and media production workshops. In this way, they combine their theoretical knowledge with applied projects and gain industry experience. Our department's students can follow the global media agenda through international seminars, panels, workshops, and conferences organized throughout the year, and have the opportunity to interact directly with international speakers. In this way, they are trained as media professionals capable of critical and creative thinking on a global scale. The education offered in our department is not limited to the undergraduate diploma alone. Our students develop their areas of expertise through professional certificate programs with national and international validity aimed at the media sector. These programs increase post-graduation employment opportunities and enable our graduates to stand out in the sector.

The Department of New Media and Communication has established strong ties with respected institutions and organizations in the media and communication sector. During their studies, our students have the opportunity to complete their mandatory internships at leading media agencies, news centers, digital marketing companies, and non-governmental organizations in Turkey and around the world. Graduates of our department are equipped to take on effective and creative roles in various fields and sectors, such as digital content creation, digital publishing, social media management, digital marketing, online public relations, digital campaign management, data journalism, augmented and virtual reality-based content production, influencer marketing and brand collaboration management, and SEO/SEM expertise. In addition to newspapers, magazines, television, digital media agencies, digital media platforms, advertising agencies, non-governmental organizations, healthcare institutions, banks, and public institutions, opportunities are also offered for students with an entrepreneurial spirit to develop creative media projects. Today, as digital communication and social media tools have become a fundamental communication tool across al sectors, our graduates are able to take on effective roles in finance, education, health, culture and the arts, technology, public administration, and many other different fields.
About the Courses
The curriculum of the Department of New Media and Communication is designed to provide the multifaceted skills required by the digital age. The program offers a holistic presentation of conceptual, theoretical, and applied knowledge that students can use at every stage of their careers. Through theoretical and mandatory courses such as Introduction to New Media, platform-based communication models, social media management, online journalism, digital marketing, media planning, media analysis, digital advertising, graphic and web design, digital culture and art, sociology of communication, media and ethics, new media literacy, and innovation in new media, the aim is for students to enter the media sector fully equipped.
Our education program, supported by applied courses such as Computer Skills and Artificial Intelligence, Computer-Aided Design, New Media Applications, Video Editing, and Interactive Arts and Design, enables our students to effectively integrate into digital transformation processes, alowing them to gain advanced sectoral skills and creative media production competencies. In addition, in order to develop our students' global competitiveness and multicultural perspectives, our education program encourages them to learn a second foreign language, in addition to English, as an elective course. In this way, students have the opportunity to develop their skills in communicating with different cultures, increasing their competence to work in multicultural environments.
Departmental Mission: The department aims to train communication professionals who can approach the technological, cultural, social, and economic changes brought about by digital transformation from a multidisciplinary perspective; who gain a broad range of competencies, from AI-supported media analysis to digital content production and from big data literacy to social media strategies; who are equipped with conceptual, theoretical, and applied knowledge; and who are creative, analytical, capable of critical thinking, culturaly sensitive, and have internalized the principles of professional ethics and sustainability.
