The Department of New Media and Communication
The Department of New Media and Communication offers a comprehensive program designed with a multidisciplinary and critical approach that meets the demands of the digital age, supported by strong university-industry collaboration through both theoretical and practical education. The department houses two separate undergraduate programs: one delivered in Turkish and the other in English. These programs approach rapidly evolving media and communication technologies with a holistic perspective, in line with the paradigms of Industry 4.0, Society 5.0, and Education 5.0. Our department provides an internationaly focused learning environment aimed at developing global communication skills. The English-medium program facilitates students’ access to global media literature and fosters an international perspective through its multicultural classroom structure. Our academicaly distinguished, experienced, and productive faculty members work closely with students, supporting their development both theoreticaly and practicaly. Media studies within the department are integrated with disciplines such as sociology, psychology, law, cultural studies, politics, art, and technology. In addition, the curriculum addresses the digitization of media from analog to digital, and examines hybrid media models built upon this transformation. Course content is enriched with current topics including artificial intelligence, big data, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), Internet of Things (IoT), data visualization. Our students benefit from applied education opportunities through state-of-the-art classrooms, studios, technology laboratories, digital content production spaces, and media production workshops. Thus, they combine theoretical knowledge with practical projects, gaining valuable industry experience. Throughout the academic year, our students follow the global media agenda by participating in international seminars, panels, workshops, and conferences, and have the opportunity to interact directly with international speakers. This dynamic environment enables them to develop into media professionals who are capable of critical and creative thinking on a global scale. The education offered by our department goes beyond the undergraduate diploma. Students can further enhance their expertise through national and international professional certification programs focused on the media sector. These certifications significantly improve their employment prospects and help them to stand out in the industry after graduation.

The Curriculum of the Department
The curriculum of the Department of New Media and Communication is designed to equip students with versatile skills required by the digital age. The program offers a comprehensive education that combines conceptual, theoretical, and practical knowledge essential for every stage of a professional career. Courses such as Introduction to New Media, Platform-Based Communication Models, Social Media Management, Online Journalism, Digital Marketing, Media Planning, Media Analysis, Digital Advertising, Graphic and Web Design, Digital Culture and Arts, Sociology of Communication, Media and Ethics, New Media Literacy, and Innovation in New Media aim to prepare students to enter the media sector with strong and comprehensive qualifications. Our education program, enriched with applied courses such as Computer Skills and Artificial Intelligence, Computer-Aided Design, New Media Applications, Video Editing, and Interactive Arts and Design, enables students to actively integrate into digital transformation processes while gaining advanced sectoral skills and competencies in creative media production. Furthermore, to enhance students’ global competitiveness and multicultural perspectives, the program encourages the learning of a second foreign language, in addition to English, through elective courses. In this way, students have the opportunity to develop their communication abilities across different cultures and strengthen their capacity to work effectively in multicultural environments.
Mission of the Department
The mission of the Department of New Media and Communication is to train communication professionals who can criticaly analyze the technological, cultural, social, and economic transformations driven by digitalization from a multidisciplinary perspective; who are equipped with conceptual, theoretical, and practical knowledge through gaining extensive competencies ranging from AI-supported media analytics to digital content production, from big data literacy to social media strategy development; and who can think creatively, analyticaly, and criticaly while internalizing cultural sensitivity, professional ethics, and the principles of sustainability.
